About
My name is Krissy. I am 52 and married to David. Our children are grown with families of their own. David and I decided to remove ourselves from the chaos of this busy world and carve out a piece of contentment for our retirement.
In the beginning, I lived in a Seattle suburb and David lived in Chicago. He moved to live with me and we married in 2013. He is a full-time teleworker at the same company he worked for in Chicago. I worked for an outdoor retailed for 18 years.
Our simple life began in 2017 after we had a “come to Jesus” experience. This experience highlighted the fragility of life. We decided to live our dream now because at any time it could be too late.
We both wanted a simple country life which neither of us had ever lived. We bought a 20-acre parcel of raw land located in North Central Washington State in 2016 with a plan of building our retirement home. Our ‘experience’ in late 2016 fast tracked our plan which also greatly impacted our budget projection.
In September 2017, I quit my job, we sold our house and we moved east. By the time we moved we had completed some preliminary work on our property. We cleared brush from the house pad, installed electric service and bought a travel trailer. We have lived in this trailer for two years now. We are building our dream home ourselves. We had to alter our original ideas and continue to adjust as we go along.
We are constantly told people envy the life we live but they could never do it themselves. The hardest part of this life is overcoming the fear of leaving what you know for the complete unknown. It is an adventure for sure!
This blog is intended to share our life, our experiences, our ideas and projects along the way to building this life…the good, bad and ugly. It is not a life for everyone to be sure. I will say, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
